“So often …a visit to a bookshop has cheered me and reminded me that there are good things in the world” Vincent van Gogh
THANK YOU so much to everyone who contributed to the amazing £300 we raised on our fundraising Saturday for Ukraine.
The Word is out…
an independent book shop has arrived in Ashtead High Street. Word on the Street is open at number 60, and we are really enjoying sharing our love of reading and books with the local community.
We are open six days a week from 9am to 5pm, offering a welcoming, vibrant bookshop selling the best in new fiction and non-fiction titles.
We will be holding regular events such as author talks, creative writing courses, childrens’ workshops, book club evenings and hopefully much more.

We’re working to set up our online shop – although this may take a while. Once open, we will keep adding to and updating our shop, so if you can’t find what you’re looking for we will ask you to please get in touch here.Shop
We are planning on holding regular events such as author visits, book talks, quizzes, workshops, book club evenings etc. We will charge a small fee for these and offer some form of refreshments. So watch this space…Events
Working With Us
We are always welcome to ideas relating to our shop and we will at some stage be looking for bookshop staff. We will advertise any such positions on this website.
We have tried to make our shop as accessible as possible. However, so that you are aware, in re-purposing the shop space, we have needed to retain a single shallow step to the back end of the shop. The step is approximately 8cm deep. We hope the area works well enough, but please do let us know if we can do any more to help.
